Life I
Who says Life is short?
who says the age?
When we spent all day loitering
with the one we love:
a cup of coffee in a pub;
who say why not gulp it once?
When we sprawl ourselves
in bed with alarm switched off;
who says sleep is a curse?
who prays against the spell?
When we hear the sweet cacophonies
of the child as he learns,
who pushes him for spliced-songs.
Who determines the meaning of time
on this ancient walk among the trees
mountains and hills.
The birds relax, outspread on the air.
The dawn is open to all.
Eggs are presents in desert places.
There is meaning in a stone.
Life's span never comes to mind
when we do the things we love.
When we stop understanding
why people do the things they do,
we damage the beauty of life.
