Screwdriver Mathematics
Lying up under the car
on the floor of the garage
I saw his little feet arrive
the shadow of his head
bending down to ask
“Whattaya want, Dad?”
“Hand me that number two Phillips
off the workbench there, son.”
I watched him switch his weight
from one little foot to the other
step away, start back, stop
turn around and then
scamper back to the car
“Dad, is the Phillips a plus or a minus?”

"Day by day...night by night.
Some days I'm grouchy and others alright.
I'm getting bigger with each hour of the day.
Here I come world...get out of my way.
I'm going on a road trip and soon you will see.
The little shadow of your son...can't wait to see you. Love me."
