Four Flights from 'Frisco

I remember the sultry days of years long gone,
when all we had was suitcase, duffel and a coat.
We lived on love, sandwiches, soup and hope,
music wailed and friends prevailed to keep us up all night.
But you got tired and homesick and flew out on a plane,
I tried to call, and I had to hitch a ride to get to you.
I sold my belongings to get the dough and went on standby,
I waited hours on plastic seats, then heard the news.
The last four flights from ‘Frisco were cancelled,
You weren’t at home when I called so I returned to our small pad.
I awoke to bacon, coffee smells and you standing in the light,
You changed your mind and came to find if love for us was good.
