Of An Unknown God
Alabaster and ebony swirled
in the marbled polished carving.
An antiquity, worn with many hands,
made from some rare mineral
that came from the cosmic void.
Even motionless, its flowing lines
would make one turn eyes twice.
Found on the golden coast of Africa
by hunters, after wood for their night fire,
its origin remains a mystery.
