I just had a senior moment.
I didn’t forget something
I remembered something.
I just remembered how my mom
would see or hear something
that would remind her
about something I did when I was small
Get that look in her eyes,
looking back, seeing me in my cowboy hat,
“Stick’em up Mommy.”
I remember her senior moment,
as she explained it,
not forgetting, but remembering.
Now I have them,
a visit back. a reminder,
like it was yesterday.
My senior moment just happened
when I saw that young mother
herding her 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls
across the street to the church entrance,
checking each one before entering,
stopping short, kneeling down
in front of the oldest boy,
turning his head side to side
holding his chin
taking out a tissue from her purse,
licking it and rubbing the smudge from his cheek.
I just had a senior moment, Mom
