The Wrong Side of the Door
The one thing about them
That is hard to ignore,
Is that a cat is always on
The wrong side of a door.
When it’s in, it wants out,
When it’s out, it wants in,
It no sooner goes through
It wants to return where it’s been.
Nowhere does it stay,
More than a minute or so
And it’s right back scratching
Through the door it must go.
In the time I’ve been sitting
Writing a few simple rhymes,
I’ve already let it in and out
More than twenty-four times.
So, I’ll try to keep my cool,
Maybe count to a hundred and ten
Because I have to get up,
I hear scratching again.
