Aahhhhhhh!
Aahhhhhhh!
Teeth are a challenge as soon as they come,
They
keep being a challenge ‘til the whole of life’s done.
Break
through the gum and give life’s first pain,
And
it’s not just the once, it’s again and again.
Cry through the night, have colds, our mouths
sore,
Just so our teeth can add to their score.
The first lot come through,
and the tears go away,
Then
it all starts again to get teeth that’ll stay.
As
if one lot of pain just wasn’t enough
And we have to be taught all that
"get tough" stuff.
Then come the teen years, oh teeth are so cruel,
Demanding we wear shining braces to school.
Just
as we’d rather melt in with the crowd,
Our
teeth shout “You’re different”, and they shout it so loud.
We finally grow up, and
an abscess appears.
Our teeth start again about teaching us tears.
Then
there’s finding a dentist who won’t make us panic …
It’s
harder than finding a good motor mechanic.
So
on through the years, the trouble won’t stop.
In
fact it’s a constant 'til the moment we drop.
A cavity here, a bridge or a cap.
And all of them needing our money on tap.
At last we all die.
That should be the end.
But teeth suddenly want to be our best friend.
So like a huge insult, teeth linger and stay
Long after our body has rotted away.
If truth must be
told, and I think that it should,
It’s
my true opinion; teeth don’t do all they could.
Since they last near
forever, they could give it a go
To
stay perfect and flawless while we’re here, and on show.
Then they could vanish. Who
needs them? Not me.
Once
my body’s cremated, there’s not much to see.
So perhaps teeth could rethink and get our full praise.
For being white, strong and perfect through our living days.
Then they could rot, like the rest of us will.
This hanging about is just overkill.
"Teeth, let's make a bargain and put this to bed.
Be perfect now, teeth! Decay when
I'm dead."
