The "True Love" Writing Competition Winner 2nd Prize 3rd Prize Highly Commended "Guess the Winner" winner Everyone's
a winner here and you are the biggest winner of all because the
following poems and short stories tingle with love, passion and
tenderness. Each is a gem guaranteed to touch and delight you.
You
are about to be thoroughly entertained. Each of the winners
in the True Love writing competition has written an outstanding
poem or short story and these outpourings of love have been matched with the warm, expressive voices of
professional actors. You're in for a treat. The Winner In the Dark (poem) by Larrisa Davisson Farrell “In
the Dark” is a love poem for all couples who still quietly adore
each other regardless of years of familiarity and regardless of
the trying concerns of their everyday existence.
We enjoy the empathetic hold the poet weaves around the
reader, revealing familiar concerns, familiar worries that extend
into understanding the depth of love that flows out of witnessing
the most intimate of moments, regardless of its lack of romantic
content. Larrisa
has won 2nd Prize Winner My Old Friend (poem) by Janette Pieloor “My
Old Friend” is a remarkable poem.
It tells a long story in surprisingly few words.
In only 19 lines, it creates an empathetic hold on its
audience that lingers long after the words are ended.
It touches a nerve in us all, exposing one of life’s
little (not so little to the person experiencing it) tragedies. Janette
has won 3rd Prize Winners There
are two 3rd Prize Winners. They are: 3rd Prize Winner Moving Day (short story) by Tom Conoboy Moving Day moves in a rhythmical flow of passion, pain, joy
and the great happiness of true love.
In only 350 words, we are taken into the intimacy of a
relationship, special and never-to-be forgotten.
Love hangs heavy in the atmosphere of the attic of the
story yet even with the tears it may bring, we feel cleansed and
refreshed by the honesty and sincerity of the storyteller. Tom
has won 3rd Prize Winner Mother and Child (poem) by Meenu Mehrotra “Mother and Child” is a remarkable insight into the
heart of a new mother. Its
words are like silk mixed with fairy dust, wrapping the reader in
so much joy our spirits take flight.
Giving birth is always a miracle and the emotions it evokes
can seem indescribable. Many
people say that the depth of joy and passionate love it creates is
indescribable and yet Meenu Mehrotra has captured the essence of
this unique, yet common, experience in a short space with an
astounding depth of emotional radiance. It is the happiest of poems, powerful with exuberance and the
depth of mother-love. Meenu

Highly
Commended Winners Simone Busch Karen Clarke Caroline Stevenson Highly Commended Winner Butterfly Smiles (poem) by Simone Busch We
can only hope that every childhood is a time of endless joy and
adventure, with one love-packed day merging in with the next.
This is a poem that many people relate easily to,
remembering their own past or rejoicing in their present.
It leaves a nice, warm fuzzy feeling. Simone
has won Highly Commended Winner Precious (short story) by Karen Clarke If
you are a parent, you will know the all-consuming need of your
time, for at least the first few years of your child’s life …
but what if that need never went away.
What would it be like to live with an ever-growing son or
daughter who doesn’t even seem to know who you are and who keeps
on behaving as if they were stuck in the “terrible twos”?
What would it be like to give birth to a child who will
never grow up?
“Precious” looks at this life challenge with compelling
honesty and honour.
By walking through a typical day of a mother of a badly
autistic child, we are privileged to witness the downs and ups a
growing number of parents in our society are experiencing.
We can only hope that they all blessed with the same
patience, acceptance and overwhelming love. Karen
has won Highly Commended Winner Till Death do us Part (short story) by Caroline Stevenson “Til Death Do Us Part” is a story fulfilling the
wish of many true love couples – to die of old age, asleep
together. It is a
gentle tale capturing a sacred scene where true love wins, despite
the intrusions of hospital rules. Caroline
